You need to do some physical activity, as part of your diet plan other wise you won’t loose weight. Why do you need physical activity? It burns calories is the simple answer.

You need a plan that can adapt to you rather than you adapting to it.

To work long term a weight loss diet has to revolve around your life and be able to fit into your life. It is not always possible for you to prepare your own food and you most definitely wont be eating the pre-packaged diet food that is part of the weight loss program for the rest of your life. There are always special events that will interfere with your diet plans. Your diet plan has to acknowledge this so that you can enjoy the occasional treat when necessary.

Have a plan that is realistic that your diet can achieve.

A diet that offers to shed 10lbs in a week may seem like your prays have been answered but this will do damage to your body, you need to select a plan that offers 2-3lbs loss per week. Diets offer small weight loss each week that slowly over time accumulate to reach your target, for this reason your diet has to be something you can live with for weeks or months.

Who wrote your diet and can you trust them.

Anyone can set up a weight loss plan and market it to individuals desperate to lose weight. Make sure that who ever published your diet has some history that is traceable.

Take the long-term view.

Slow and stead is the way to go. Your diet should have small achievable goals to keep your motivation going. Having a group of like minded people around you who you can call and speak to when you are feeling low is a great way to make sure that you stick with your diet.

There are no hard and fast rules but the above should give you some starting points to finding the right diet for you. The last thing that you need to do is to take action. Sitting down, learning all of the literature and steps needed for success dose not mean that you will succeed unless you actually start your diet with commitment. Reading about dieting is not going to help you actually loose weight, you have to go out and really do it.
